How many units are in ale, beer, lager and stout?

It doesn’t matter if you’re drinking lager, ale or stout, the important thing to know is how strong your drink is, and how much you’re having. For example, one pint of 5% lager contains nearly 3 units.

Always check the label

Checking your drink’s ABV (alcohol by volume) will give you a guide to how strong it us. The ABV tells you what percentage of the drink is made up of alcohol. For example, a lager with 5% ABV is 5% pure alcohol. The higher the percentage, the more alcohol there is.
